Caring for your vintage rugs.
By purchasing a vintage rug, you embrace imperfections as part of its story. Each rug is truly one-of-a-kind and lends a sense of warmth and nostalgia to any space.
Maintaining your vintage rug requires a little bit of attention to ensure its longevity and beauty.
Here are some of our favourite tips!
-
Vacuuming - use a vacuum cleaner with a gentle brush attachment to remove dust and debris. Vacuum in the direction of the pile, not against it.
Spot Cleaning - For spills, blot the area immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Ensure the cloth is not coloured to avoid colour transfer. Avoid rubbing, as this can also spread the stain.
Sunlight Exposure - Be aware that direct sunlight could cause some fading of your rug.
Rug Rotation - Regularly rotate your rugs to ensure even wear, especially in high-traffic areas.
Rug Pads - Using a good quality rug pad may prevent slipping, add cushioning and protect the rug from wear on hard floors.
Storage - before storing, thoroughly clean your rug. To avoid creasing, and if you have the room, roll your rug. For compact spaces, folding your rug is fine, but be aware your rug will crease but will flatten out once back in use. If possible, wrap your rug in a breathable material to prevent dust accumulation.
-
Deep Cleaning - Consider having your rug professionally cleaned every 3-5 years, especially for Oushak rugs which can accumulate dirt over time.
Specialised Care - Choose a professional cleaner experienced with vintage rugs.
Repair and Restoration - Address damage promptly. If you notice fraying, loose threads, or damage, consult a professional for repairs as soon as possible to prevent further issues.
